Baseball

“I wrote 63 songs this year. They’re all about Jeter.” Just kidding. The game we love, the players we hate, and more.

Culture and Criticism

From Norman Mailer to Wendy Pepper — everything on film, TV, books, music, and snacks (shut up, raisins), plus the Girls’ Bike Club.

Donors Choose and Contests

Helping public schools, winning prizes, sending a crazy lady in a tomato costume out in public.

Stories, True and Otherwise

Monologues, travelogues, fiction, and fart humor. And hens. Don’t forget the hens.

$56,028. So close to our next match!   Watch this space for information, and an introduction to The Great And Powerful Asirda, Matcher Of Myth And Legend.   (Asirda: “Lady, bring it down a notch.”)

Mini-prize alert!   Donors to “Reach for the Stars: Astronomy at Its Best!” can win a bag of NASA goodies, donated by reader Karen W., if the project is funded. It’s a relatively small nut compared with some of the phys-ed projects we’ve been working on; you guys should have no problem taking care of it and winning some NASA playing cards and shot glasses.

And reader Charmaine reminded me to remind you that signing up to make a monthly automatic donation to Donors Choose — even a nominal one — will net you a $50 DC gift card, which you could spend on the contest!   It’s like free money!   Go into “My Account” (if you’ve donated, you probably already have one) and click on “Make A Lasting Impact With An Automatic Monthly Donation” (you should see it at the top, on the left side).   Once you’ve got the $50 gift card, throw it at Bet Red; I guarantee you it will stick.

Space!   Free money!   It’s a good day.
