Save The Day: April 20

Submitted by on April 20, 2011 – 9:26 AM18 Comments

9:30 AM update

$108,529 — heroic job! A match looms at 125K, so let’s get there soon.

A reminder about the new DonorsChoose.org interface: we’ll all get used to it, and certain features should reappear/settle down in a day or two. If your donation went somewhere without your permission or you can’t figure out the new nav, post a comment here, or email Anna or Zach (anna or zach at donorschoose dot org) for help.

But the spreadsheet remains the same, so why not shop for a project there? Or help out Ms. H with her alien-autopsy project?

There’s a $100 Best Buy gift card in it for one lucky donor today — forward any receipt from any project on the leaderboard by midnight ET and you could win! That email is bunting at tomatonation dot com. Let’s go!

Also for a list of projects under $100 check http://tomatohelper.wordpress.com/

  • AnnD says:

FIRE! FIRE! We have 1 project expiring in 10 hours! HELP! There are 7 projects for <$50. MANY PROJECTS expiring in the coming days!

FYI- GP owners..you can set your DEFAULT VIEW to "PROJECTS" to make it easier for donors.

  • Allison says:

Has anyone else noticed that with the new Giving Page layout, you can only view the projects on page 1? Whenever I click to move on to the 2nd page, it takes me back to the main page. :( So unless a project is on the first page, it can’t be seen by donors! At least, not by this donor/teacher!

  • charmaine says:

    woohoo, Funded!!!

I was just contacted and found out cut off for ordering for this school year ends next week for this school….They have early ending school year. Only $74, can we get it to them before year is over http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=524347&challengeid=155170

  • Amanda says:

One of the specific site glitches right now is that Giving Pages with more than one page don’t seem to be letting you go past… the first page, and trying to do so redirects you to that Giving Page’s main page.

I’m sure that DC will get it fixed soon enough, but in the meantime this means that my ability to update the spreadsheet for giving pages that have more than 50 projects is questionable. While only a handful of the giving pages are actually affected by this, I realize this isn’t exactly ideal for those GPs.

Once that particular function returns I’ll do my best to get the spreadsheet back up to date ASAP.

  • Jane says:

Loot query: initially I thought the loot eligibility was established automatically, but now I see the note about forwarding receipts. Are there different categories, or did the automatic capability go on hiatus when the new interface appeared? Or is the forwarding a just-in-case approach?

Not that giving isn’t reward enough, but I’m never averse to the possibility of *more* than enough.

  • Amanda says:

    Aha, workaround:

Click on page 2 (or whatever). You may be taken to page 2, or you may be taken to the main page of the giving page. If the latter happens, paste the following AFTER THE URL in your address bar:

    &active=true&max=50

    Et voila.

This is a bit clunky, but it gets the job done and hopefully won’t be necessary for too long.

This teacher’s project begins, “Heroes wanted and needed!”

    http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=475526&challengeid=163240

9 days and $252 to go. I know y’all can make it happen. :)

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

Loot eligibility for the main prizing pool is established automatically. Loot eligibility for mini-prizes, it depends. Sometimes I need you to forward receipts; sometimes I don’t. Today, I do.

But as far as entering the contest generally, once you’ve donated, you’re entered.

In other news, the pagination issue appears to have resolved; try clearing your caches if it’s still not working for you.

I want to give another shout-out to etsy artist cloudery, who has a print up for sale now as a Tomato Nation Donors Choose fundraiser: http://www.etsy.com/listing/70338310/april-fundraiser-for-donorschooseorg-red

The full sale price will go to the challenge, and the buyer gets a cool print; it’s like a guaranteed prize!

  • Larissa says:

Project in rural Appalachian area of North Carolina needs $160 for books. It is listed both on Charmaine’s and the main page. I am not the teacher, just know how much this area could use help.

  • Hilary says:

Came home today to find a package of thank-you notes from a project I helped fund through TN/DC. I’ve given to Donor’s Choose for awhile now, but this, I guess, is the first time I’d finished funding a project… and man, I can’t tell you how amazingly fulfilling reading these letters was. It’s not allergies; I’m just crying.

Thanks for facilitating this, Sars. For the kids and their teachers and the rain barrel and their garden. But for me too and this feeling.

  • AnnD says:

NEWSFLASH! Fire! Fire! GP has TWELVE projects that can be fully funded for $11-$67. WHAT A GREAT DEAL and others will be expiring SOON!

T-Nation Jeopardy <$50 GP – Lots of people donated today and there are TEN PROJECTS that can be completed for less than $35 each. AMAZING!

BE A HERO TO A CHILD…check them out and get thank you notes too!

  • Allie says:

I donated (again)yesterday and thought I was finishing off the project Allison linked above http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=561082&challengeid=155170 but as soon as my paypal donation went through the NEA Match graphic vanished off the project page and so there’s still $228 to go. Not sure what happened there. But I’m sure the Nation can get it fully funded.
