Save The Day: April 8

2:30 PM update

$68,165 — great job! And big huge thanks to the M. clan for the 1K match: M. Giant, M. Edium, and Trash. M. Edium even pimped DonorsChoose.org to his playdate! That’s what I’m talking about.

We have another match coming in at 75K, so keep grinding it out; you’re doing great.

Now let me tell you a little something about Charmaine. Charmaine is doing great work on her Giving Page, which you already know, but what you might not know is that she can shoot lasers from her eyes…and if she finds out that you meant to donate today and qualify for one of her prizes (below) and didn’t do it, she will fricassee you like a little fishie. They call her Fry Mama and she is feared throughout Europe for a reason. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

…Okay, not really. (Well, she might have laser eyes, but she hasn’t mentioned it.) She’s quite a nice lady. But today’s still a great day to donate, and you can dig the available prizes below. Click here to get started!

9 AM update

One week in; $65,720. Good pace; keep it up.

Any moment now, we’re sure to hit the 1K match at 66K generously furnished by Velcrometer Inc. — M. Edium, Executive VP of Selection, and M. Giant and Trash, CFOs. M. Edium is a project-shopper whose surgical-strike capabilities rival my shoe-shopping own, so I can’t wait to see what sorts of things he assigns the match to.

While we wait, let me suggest you peep Charmaine’s Giving Page. She’s led the contest in donors the whole way so far, and she’s kicking ass and taking names — YOUR names, for prizes! She sent me the deets last night:

Donate to any project on the “You Say To-ma-to; I Say Tom-ah-to” Giving Page and be entered to win 1 of 4 gift card packs ($25 amazon.com + $10 donorschoose.org). No need to send receipts!  Maybe you want to help Mrs. S, who is going to do cartwheels if her project is funded, or Ms. M, who would love to have a Mimio for her classroom, or a never-before-funded teacher who has students that want to help the victims of the tsunami and earthquake in Japan. Any project you donate to before midnight ET from the “You Say To-ma-to; I Say Tom-ah-to” Giving Page will get you entered.  You can also do your searching on the master spreadsheet using the Giving Page “charmaine.”

Thanks, Charmaine — for offering the prizes, and for your awesome super-organizing.

It’s Friday, Nation. Let’s earn ourselves a weekend.

Super cool. I just dropped some proverbial change in the bucket for the projects that needed buckets for Japan.

  • Charmaine says:

Wow, awesome the Coins for J.A.P.A.N project is already funded as because the donor said “I gave to this project because helping others in need should always be encouraged.”, and I agree with her, here is another never before funded teacher who’s class will make blankets for the homeless http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=536073&challengeid=155170 Thanks for visiting our giving page today, you are making a difference in the lives of many.

  • Charmaine says:

A big shout out and thank you to M. Giant and M. Edium.

  • Trash says:

Now THAT was fun. WELL DONE, Tomato Nation!!! M.Edium thanks you for letting him *shop for donations* this morning – he spent that $1000 in no time.

  • M. Giant says:

    M. Edium was thrilled that he got to spend a whole thousand dollars at Donors Choose, but you know how kids are: “Can we do an extra hundred?”

He had a big old time dropping great chunks of cash on projects. His playdate showed up early and M. Edium was all, “We’re doing Donors Choose!” as if the other kid knows what that is. But like Sarah said, he does now.

Can I put in a plug for a project on the Fire! Fire! page that expires in eight hours? It has slipped to the last page and I’m afraid people won’t see it in time. . Only $65 to go.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

    Awwwww.

    @alh Just finished it off.

  • Adrian says:

Just want to add my own shout out to Charmaine. I peeked at her public profle on DC, and she has personally reached over 100,000 students and recruited over 150 donors. Charmaine, because you are AWESOME, I’m off to pick one of the projects on your page.

  • Charmaine says:

@AnnD, how many more new donors do you need to get today?

@Adrian and Sarah, what nice things you said…probably my girls would say I do have laser eyes, or at least eyes in the back of my head…but I use them very infrequently :)

@M. Edium picked some great projects, and way to go to let the playdate know all about DC. My girls do their own giving pages for birthdays and love to send out messages to get donors!

Another match at 75K, great news, lets keep moving forward. 8 projects funded so far off my giving page today….wonder how many it will be at midnight. I will add them up and give $10 for each one completed….$80 so far…what will the total be :)

  • Bea says:

I just took my students to see a play at the local theatre. This looks like a great project from the page to help support the arts!!!!

  • Allison says:

I had a great time this morning donating to projects on Charmaine’s page! Now I’m off to look again and see if there are any that are close to completion!

PS. Sarah, for your use of the word “fricassee” I need to ask — will you be my friend?

  • Mrs. S says:

Super Cool! I am Mrs. S that was spoken about above and I am stretching and getting my forty year old body ready to do some promised cartwheels to some deserving kids if the project is funded. :)

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

@Allison: Sure! Although now I’m worried I misspelled it. :)

  • Angela McCormack says:

Sarah, Is it okay to send requests to add projects to the TN giving page? Our school has some new projects up today.

    Thanks!

    Angela

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

@Angela, it’s perfectly okay. If you’re unclear on the guidelines, just read the FAQ, or send me an email (also available in the FAQ). Good luck!

  • Robin says:

I wanted to give a huge thank you to M. Giant and M. Edium for completing my “Let’s read and relax” project that was featured on Charmaine’s Tomato Nation Giving Page. My 2nd grade students and I are thrilled to be getting a carpet for our reading area. Thanks, Robin

  • Mrs. H says:

How does a teacher put a project on the “You Say To-ma-to; I Say Tom-ah-to” Giving Page?

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

I’ll forward your email to Charmaine.

  • SP says:

West Coast timing got me to the To-mah-to page well after midnight ET — and just about to midnight my time — but there were still such good projects that I finished one off just for the fun of it… “Play and Read Books” is all set! Thanks for doing this!

  • Charmaine says:

Thanks to everyone who visited http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/viewChallenge.html?id=155170&category=241 the page today. A bit over $2,000 and 11 projects funded, which means I just added another $110 to the total and finished 2 more projects. Way to go TomatoNation.
