The Tomato Nation Fall Classic: Sweet Action

Submitted by on October 7, 2010 – 11:38 AM8 Comments

It’s October — candy season. I realized this morning, while prying part of the Laffy Taffy I’d breakfasted on out of my backmost left molar, that 1) I need to get the N Candy AA non-chocolate bracket in gear, and 2) a large quantity of candy would make an excellent mini-prize! Well, maybe not for people with special diet needs, but I’m happy to buy one of you a fruit basket or some bagels or something. We’ll work it out.

Forward me your receipts, sweet teeth, and I’ll order one lucky/snacky winner up to $20 of sugary product from Candy Warehouse. Or something analogous that won’t make diabetes rise up and kill your ass; don’t let candy aversion spoil your fun.

Current figures: $7,581 for Donors Choose; $950 neighborhood for baseball unis and scholarships. (Sorry for the vagueness; PayPal is waiting to clear things, blah blah.)

It’s Thursday; that’s payday — or, for one of you, a gross of Paydays. Totally nuts! Let’s do it.

    Hee. I loved that.

I’m glad, because now that damned song is stuck in my head. “Totally nuts! Totally nuts about Paaaay-Daaaay!”

I’m a little behind on donating but I just went to the DC site & was slightly confused. I noticed that there are a few projects that don’t fit the theme of “classic books”. I see 2 for LCD projectors, 1 for a computer, 1 for a video camera, and 1 for microscopes. While I’m normally very “click… donate… oh yeah, what was that project for?” during October, those projects stood out because of the “[…] while Judy Blume will qualify, microscopes will not.” line from the original request for project nominations. Did they just slip through the cracks or is there something up with the DC site?

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

@Shannon: I didn’t pick all of those projects. (One of them has Darwin as a material, so I let it through, I believe.) The DC site kicked me off the leaderboard yesterday and now I can’t get on it at all, so I’m assuming it’s a bug; once the dust settles, I’ll go back through the projects and make sure everything’s kosher.
