TN Fall Contest: Tomato Dance Update

Submitted by on October 26, 2007 – 3:51 PM34 Comments

So…the costume arrived just now.

I am pleased to report that it fits. In fact, I can sit down in it, and am sitting in it right now, typing this entry. It’s kind of big and unwieldy, but less so than I’d expected. And it came early! Akron Design & Costume is awesome!

I am also pleased to report that the hat part is SO INSANELY STUPID-LOOKING that it defies all description. I look like a Futurama character.

Tomato dance: next Friday, 11/2, at around lunchtime. I will give you a more specific time next week. During that day, I’ll be running the occasional errand to the bank and/or Starbucks, so if I’m about to appear in public, I’ll let you know. I’m also planning an after-work happy hour, so you’ll have plenty of chances to see the costume in all its glory. Which is significant.

The tomato dance, as well as many other aspects of my day in costume, will be taped and available on YouTube a few days after the event. I’d love to see any and all of you there, but if you can’t make it, you’ll still be able to see it.

It sounds like a good time; I’ll be sorry to miss it! I wish you a sunny day and very few obstacles. You’re a good person with a great, giving spirit and an incredible sense of humor! Thank you for doing this!

  • Tisha_ says:

I wish I could come! But, Oklahoma is pretty far from NYC for a tomato dance. I doubt my boss would allow me a few days off for it. It might be fun to ask just to see her reaction though. :-)

I’ll eat a Sonic Orange Creamslush and pretend I’m there though! lol

I can’t wait to see the videos!

  • Sars says:

I just did a “can I fold myself all the way into the tomato part of the costume and disappear” test, and: I can. I can even do a thing where only feet stick out and I can walk around like Dorf.

I can’t do it without knocking shit off of bookshelves…but I can do it.

  • Katie says:

I’m so excited to see this! I can think of no better way to spend a lunch hour. I’m just sad I won’t be able to make the happy hour.
Love that you can fold yourself into the costume. I would hide in there all day taking a nap.

  • Janna says:

Ah, but did you to a “can I fold myself into a bathroom stall” test? And/or a “can I get out of this thing in a bathroom stall” test? I feel like that might be important to try before next week.

  • Jennifer says:

Help teach students Global Warming Awareness: $155.
Watching Sars do the Angela Dance in a tomato costume: Priceless.

  • Cathy says:

Hee. I am SO there! Someone needs to bring some tomato shaped confetti!

  • Margaret in CO says:

You’ll be the most beutiful tomato in New york, Sars. I love ya for doing this!

I think we’re going to need footage of Dorf as a Tomato.

  • Margaret in CO says:

And ooh! What do Hobey & Little Joe think of you in that costume???

  • Kristen says:

~contemplates playing hooky and taking the Acella up to NYC for the sole purpose of seeing Sars a la heirloom tomato.~

  • Kona says:

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to talk my boss into letting me have a long lunch so I can go up to midtown and watch this, and I think I’m going to go with “I’ve got to go see a woman dance around in a tomato costume. I’ll be back later.” Because I obviously can’t miss this.

  • Marianne says:

I am so glad you are going to YouTube this!

Also – if people want to let Colbert know that he just got his butt handed to him on a platter, there’s a press contact for the Colbert Report here: http://www.comedycentral.com/press/series/thecolbertreport.jhtml

  • M. Giant says:

I suggest many hours of exhaustive testing to determine whether it’s harder to get a cab or negotiate a subway turnstile in that thing. Only because I’d hate to see you trapped in Brooklyn after all this.

  • Jen says:

Kristen, me too. It’s not a long train ride to NYC from where I’m at. Hmmm.

  • Rain says:

What I want to know is which Futurama character?

  • sam says:

Man, I’ve never been so happy that I work three blocks from Rock Center, and that I just bought a Nikon D80. Barring any work-related emergencies, I’m SO there.

  • Natalie says:

Damn. I can’t believe I miss seeing this “in the tomatoey-goodness flesh” by three short days! Thank heavens for YouTube.

  • Rebecca says:

Sweet! I moved to NY just in time :-)

  • Josh says:

I work in midtown. I am sooooooo there!

  • Jenny says:

Sars, please tell me that at least some small shred of YouTube video will include the cat’s reactions to the tomato costume. I’m guessing that would be pretty priceless.

  • Colin says:

I go to school upstate in Syracuse, and I have a single, totally reschedule-able class on Fridays. Trains to New York are conveniently-timed, if not frequent.

…Too bad I’m going to be IN COLORADO for a conference that day.

    Damn.

    YouTube it is, then. Whee!

  • Jane says:

I’ve never been so glad to work in midtown! I cannot wait!!

  • em-dash says:

If only I didn’t live on the opposite coast! Any chance of taking the tomato show on the road? :)

  • Molly says:

I hope I can make it up there! (Please doG let me be in town that afternoon…)

    Are cameras allowed?

  • PollyQ says:

OMGWTFBBQ!!! I only just realized that although I live in CA, I am actually going to be in NYC on 11/2!!!! WooHoo!! It’s Tomato Dance Time!!!

(I’m usually much cooler than this, I swear)

  • Jill says:

ME: “Honey, do you mind if I fly to New York next Friday to see a dancing tomato?”

DH (in front of the World Series): “Sure….hon….okay….um….WHAT?”

  • polly#2 says:

Your sitting at your computer dutifully typing in tomato costume is nearly funnier than an actual dance. I second Jenny’s request, can we see the cats waving you off to work in your costume?

  • Alan Swann says:

It’s only fitting that MSCL comes out on DVD this week, just in time for us to create a thousand Angela/Sars dance mashups. Boogie oogie oogie!

  • BillSimmonsDad says:

So when do dance rehearsals begin?

  • Sars says:

Oh, Lord. Today. I should have started earlier, but I was in denial. Heh.

Also today: the purchase of red tights. Unless y’all think I should go with a kicky argyle tight. With red boxer briefs worn over it. Klass-aaaay!

  • Erin says:

Boy, wouldn’t it be nice if somehow our Hot Tomato got disoriented and just happened to wander onto a southbound train and ended up here in D.C.?

We don’t have enough tomatoes on the Mall and I would totally drive in to town to see that!

  • La BellaDonna says:

Sars, I’m thinking those tights should be green. After all, if a tomato’s stems are green, shouldn’t yours be, too?

  • Shotrock says:

What will be almost as hilare as Sars is all of us standing in Rock Center (some of us in business attire) around 12:40-12:45 or so with cameras and waiting and NOT. TAKING. PHOTOS.

And the non-TN locals will be all, “Those tourists are kinda overdressed…and just…holding? … their cameras? WTF?”

And we’ll be using our screen names to introduce ourselves. “Hi, PollyQ, I’m Shotrock.”

    Oh God. CANNOT WAIT.
