Meet The New Boss

No, not Mabel (above), although it’s probably best to let her keep thinking she’s in charge. I’ve taken a job as the editor of Yahoo! Shine’s brand-new Pets channel. We just launched today, and I’d love it if you guys stepped over to the section now and then and checked out the content. As I said, it’s new, so we’ve still got a few wrinkles to iron out as far as content supply, not getting in constant fights with the developer tool, and so on — but I’d love to have TNians over there participating and suggesting cool content for us to explore. (For example, the Best Chevron angry-cat-ears photo contest I’m currently plotting.)

And if you sent in a Vine question about your pet(s), please consider re-sending it when we get rolling with advice and experts over there. (Not least because any pet-related writing I do will happen on Shine from now on, not here.)

Questions? Coverage requests? Links or pics? Email me, or hit up the Shine Pets comments. …You know, if you’re not too busy getting ready for the gerbil show.

  • FloridaErin says:

Aw, Mabel is such a pretty girl! Congrats and I will definitely be checking it out!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

    Pretty girl…business expense…tomato, to-mah-to. Hee.

  • Amy says:

CONGRATS! I don’t have any pets right now (my feline companion Kitty passed away earlier this year after 16 years together) but if/when I get another pet, that site will come in handy.

And for the record, her name was Phoebe but in true feline fashion, she decided that name wasn’t her style and only answered to Kitty.

  • Jen S 1.0 says:

Who’s a pretty girl? Who’s a pretty girl? You are! YOU ARE! Toebeans!

Of course I’ll head over to the new site! I’ve already got I Can Haz Cheeseburger and Cuteoverload bookmarked, who the hell am I kidding?

  • Rebecca says:

I hope you’ll post links here to any new Hobey stories there…

  • Elena says:

Congratulations, Sars! The more sites you’re writing for, the less productive and therefore more enjoyable my workdays are.

  • MinglesMommy says:

Mabel is beautiful! She’s gotten big! And congrats on the new job, hope it goes well!

Can I add any more exclamation points? Of course I can!!!!! (ha!)

  • Isis Uptown says:

Congratulations! We don’t have much trouble with our big dog, but you never know.

Early this week, while sick, I was listening to “Girls’ Bike Club,” which certainly improved my mood:

  • Tracey says:

Congrats on the new gig, Sars! I visit Shine a few times a week – looking forward to reading the Pets section.

  • Jen in Houston says:

What Elena said! The site looks great, although I must tell you, the cat hair craft book idea disturbs me tremendously… So much so that I have to read it…

  • Kriesa says:

Congratulations! I do have a dog question that I’ll send in :).

  • Omar G. says:

Congratulations! That’s such wonderful news. Heading over there right now.

  • Andrea says:

Oh, the angry cat ears. We have lots of experience with that here. My cat’s angriest ears are often accompanied by a weird snakelike swaying motion and low-pitched howl. And yes it is as terrifying as it sounds.

Congrats on the new gig! Going to bookmark it now.

  • Leigh in CO says:

Woo, congratulations! And that Mabel, she is so kyooot.

  • mctwin says:

I’m on Yahoo all day long and I get distracted by the Shine articles a lot! I’m thrilled that you’ll be a contributor since, well, you ROCK! Congratulations! Couldn’t happen to a more talented, deserving person! I will raise a beverage in your honor tonight!

  • Another Sarah J says:

@Isis – thank you so much for that link! I’ve been wanting to order the GBC CD for a while, but didn’t realize you could order it from Amazon. Downloading to my phone now! :)

  • Isis Uptown says:

    @Sarah J: Glad to help.

The other link I’m pushing right now is my birthday fundraiser (I’m raising money for Second Harvest of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana – I’m a Cajun girl who now lives in N.O.), so feel free to go there, too: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/shyra-latiolais/birthday

  • cmcl says:

Wait, “any” pet-related writing? Does that mean no more “feline fun times” with Little Joe and the Hobe over here? If so, sadface.

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

Archives will stay. New stuff belongs to Shine. Non-compete and all that.

  • MizShrew says:

    Congrats Sars!

Oh, the chevron ears. Can’t wait for that promotion, as my kitty Eastwood does truly magnificent Angry Cat ears.

  • Toni says:

Sars, will you be allowed to link to new “feline fun times” articles from here so we’re alerted when to head over and check them out? I’d hate to miss out just because it’s getting lost in my every expanding “must-check” website list.

    Congrats!

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

Yeah, I’ll link occasionally. It’ll show up in the blogroll as well.

  • Angie says:

Speaking of felines, Sars, how are Little Joe and the Hobe?

  • Sarah D. Bunting says:

Oh, fine. Hobey is melodramatic about being old, but nothing new there. Heh.
