“In Soviet Russia, cat adopt you, okehhhhh?”

Niko is coming home to my apartment this afternoon.   This is not going to make me very popular with the ranking felines, but the kind woman at Feline Felicity is coming by tomorrow for a “home visit,” to see if she can recommend a placement.

He seems to have a bit of an upset tummy at the moment, probably as a result of the thyroid issue (and wolfing his food…I almost lost a finger this morning.   It’s just Fancy Feast, grandpa, settle down).

If you might consider taking him, even if you’re not super-local, please email me.   I mean, look at that face.   Also, I haven’t gotten a picture of it, but when he gets a big tail, holy crap.   Peacock City, and he’s the mayor.

He’s awesome, you guys.   And you guys are really awesome, too; thanks so much for your support and offers of help.   We really appreciate it.

Maybe as he feels better he’ll groom better? All the stress plus the untreated thyroid thing would contribute mightily to poor grooming. You may want to try giving him a good brush and waiting a couple of days to see if his grooming improves.

    He’s adorable.

I live near Chicago and would be willing to help in the kitty caravan train….

I was out and about after reading this thread, and Dylan’s “Shelter From the Storm” popped up on my iPod.

And when the lyric “and old men with broken teeth stranded without love” played and I thought of Nikoli and cried a little.

I’m so glad to hear he might just have found a retirement castle.

I popped in another donation for the DC Challenge in honor of Nikolai (though I didn’t mention it in the note). I’d love to chip in some way for Nikolai’s eventual new home life. (Gas for transport, donation for food or supplies, etc.) Way to rally the members of the nation, Sars!

@FloridaErin – my cat does that mirror pawing thing at night sometimes, too! I just don’t get it. I have a spray bottle next to my bed. Sometimes it works. Sometimes Margo just looks at me and rolls her eyes and keeps doing whatever pestery thing she’s doing. Good luck!

  • Margaret in CO says:

    Gee thanks, Stephanie. (*boohoo sniff*)
(the lyrics database in your head must be fantastic!)

I also have a cat who scratches at glass surfaces…just throw a scarf over the mirror at bedtime & you’ll be fine. I think they like the slickery smoothness.

    You guys. *Sigh*

My beloved ex (mentioned above) called me last night, and before I even had the chance to tell him about Nikolai (I like Nicodemus!) or ask about Oi-zee, he told me he was sad and then related The Tale of The Orange Cat. Yep, another one, this ‘un in Ohio. B.Ex’s mom (a dear woman) took in this little guy some weeks back, and just recently he ran off for a day or two. Even the family’s thousand-year-old cranky-assed black Lab missed this little fellow.

When he came back, he had several fractures in one of his back legs. He kept forgetting, and trying to get up – and was, I am told, ridiculously good natured about his pain. B.Ex held him as they took him to the vet, where it turned out the vet, who understood that they could not afford to pay for his care, said he knew a fixer-upper shelter where they’d get his care on charity and would then place him.

B.Ex was torn up to be unable to cover the bills, and is still scrambling in his mind for ways to do it. I know it must have killed his mom, she’s a very soft touch. I even said to him, “Okay, I give her $100, you give her $100 …”

Alas, it seems their role was more of the Kitty Underground Railroad variety, and they’re a station on this little guy’s way to where he needs to be.

So if anyone in central Ohio adopts a little orange boy who’s recovering from multiple fractures … Send a prayer B.Ex’s and his mom’s way, coz they did you a solid. And for that darling boy, too.

    *Totally getting misty over here*

@Alison: Hee! I threaten to make one of mine (the very loud one) into a hat.
@FloridaErin: Get one of those dust-off air-spray cans (for cleaning keyboards or what-have-you.) I just spray a short spurt on that sucker and all the cats go running away in every direction because they think they have just been Told. Off. by Ceiling Cat (or perhaps Basement Cat is more fitting.). Seriously, they think there’s a giant imnisible kitty hissing at them. One of my cats is of the 3am “mee!” variety, usually from the top of something very tall – “I know you’re sleeping but LOOK HOW HIGH I AM!!!” – and at this point all I have to do is reach for the can next to the bed and he’s out-ie.
